At the developers' conference held in South Korea, Samsung announced the launch of the second-generation multimodal generative AI model, Samsung Gauss 2, capable of processing multiple data types, including text, code, and images, significantly enhancing performance and efficiency. The company highlighted its improved performance, efficiency, and various application possibilities.

In order to meet the demands of different computing environments and application scenarios, the Gauss 2 multimodal language model provides three different versions: "Compact," "Balanced," and "Supreme," offering higher levels of convenience and personalization.

Samsung Gauss was first introduced last year as an intelligent tool designed to enhance employee productivity, aimed at simplifying everyday office tasks.

By integrating advanced AI technologies, Gauss optimizes email drafting processes, making communication more efficient, and automatically generates document summaries, saving time and effort.

Additionally, its multilingual translation feature helps employees overcome language barriers, enabling seamless international communication.

Building on this foundation, Samsung has released the second generation, Gauss 2, showcasing more powerful processing capabilities.

Gauss 2 is a multimodal model integrating language, code, and image processing functions, with the notable characteristic of exhibiting outstanding performance and higher efficiency when handling various data types simultaneously.

This not only enhances the overall response speed of the system but also broadens its application scenarios, allowing it to better meet the diverse needs of enterprise users.

Compact Model

The Compact model focuses on efficient operation on resource-constrained devices. It is a smaller model specifically designed for effective performance, even in limited computing environments, by maximizing the use of the device’s computational resources.

Balanced Model

The Balanced model aims to achieve a balance between performance, speed, and efficiency, providing consistent performance across different tasks.

Supreme Model

The Supreme model aims to provide top-tier performance by employing the Mixture of Experts technique on the Balanced model, significantly reducing computational costs during training and inference while maintaining high levels of performance and efficiency.

Advantages of Samsung Gauss 2

Depending on the model, Samsung Gauss 2 supports between 9 to 14 languages and various programming languages.

Samsung has developed and integrated stable technologies to train large language models (LLMs) and designed custom tokenizers to ensure these supported languages achieve maximum efficiency.

Compared with currently leading open-source generative AI models, the Balanced and Supreme models offer equal or superior performance in key metrics, such as generating responses in multiple languages, including English and Korean, as well as coding capabilities.

Additionally, their processing speed has increased by 1.5 to 3 times per hour, allowing for faster generation of AI responses, reducing user wait time, and enhancing task processing efficiency.
